Black Lives Matter. That is more important than anything else in this blog post, and I want that to be made clear. It’s very cool to see skateboarders come together and stand up to fight against racism. Keep an eye out for gatherings put together by skateboarders all over, there’s one called “Rolling for Rights” coming up in San Diego.
Since the last blog post, a lot has happened over on our Instagram. “Dylan Week” wrapped up, we announced the winner of our giveaway with Thunder Trucks, and some other loops of amazing skateboarders were made.
Dylan Week was a special one. Dylan Rieder will always be one of my favorite skateboarders, he really proved to me that how you do a trick is just as important, or more important, than what trick you do. I also love how much Dylan influenced skateboarding as a whole, through the way he dressed, and his trick selection.
This loop is a great representation of why Dylan’s skateboarding is so special. It’s an ollie up a curb, something that is done every single day, by almost every skateboarder, but look at how he did it. The way he taps his back wheels, and swerves when he lands is really engrained into my brain.
One of Dylan’s most memorable clips, in my opinion. Look at the thumbnail, look how high above the ledge he caught the frontside flip out. Not only that, but he fully rotated the frontside flip out, and rolled away fast. He skated with power, control, and his own style.
In celebration of reaching 1,000 followers on Instagram, we did a contest with Thunder Trucks. The rules were simple, make a loop of a Thunder team rider, post it on your feed, use #ThunderSkateLoop, and our favorite would win a set of trucks. After looking through all the entries, I chose this loop of Brad Cromer made by Shiloh Murrell. I thought it was rad how Shiloh took his own creative way to make a loop, by making it an animation. The way it loops coming in and out of the frame, as well as the colors Shiloh used made it perfect, congrats Shiloh, enjoy those Thunders!
Ishod Wair. He is the only person I have ever seen do this. He is so confident that his board will bounce off the coping and go right back to his feet, the way he rolls away looks like he didn’t have a doubt in his mind. I love watching Ishod skate because you never know what he’s going to do, and this really shows that to be true. I’d love to see him do this in the streets in one of his parts. I think I’ve rewatched this one everyday since making it, it’s mesmerizing.
