What’s Loopin’ – 7/10/22

With a couple amazing video projects releasing over this past week, it only felt right to let out my thoughts out. When something releases and I’m stoked on it, I immediately text my friends, start talking about my favorite clips, and become obsessed. Behind the Loops: Alan Hannon & Eric Iwakura

As I’m sure you’re well aware, Primitive’s latest video offering, DEFINE., released last Sunday, June 5th. I knew I’d love this video, based on the skaters involved, and equally as important; the filmers involved. 

In all of it’s glory

I first became aware of Alan Hannon’s work during The Push Project part he did with Miles Silvas. I enjoyed seeing how they worked together, and I’ve watched that part countless times since its 2017 release. Since then, my respect for Alan’s work has continued to grow from projects like Primitive’s Encore and Fourth Quarter videos. 

Over the past few years, I became familiar with Eric Iwakura’s work, and have become a fan of what he does. I think his VX footage looks amazing, which is on display in this Trent McClung part he worked on. But, Eric’s brilliance isn’t limited to a VX, he films great regardless of the camera, as Alan will touch on in the interview below…

I love what DEFINE. is, and am very stoked I was able to go behind the scenes of what went into this project, with both Alan and Eric, enjoy! –

Behind The Part: Jake Hayes

I’m good, just chilling. 

🌀: Nice, well thanks for being down to do this, I thought it’d be cool to hear about your new part. How are you feeling now that the part is out, excited, relieved?

Yeah, it’s definitely a relief. It only took a little over a year to film, but it felt like it took so long. Super stoked on how it came out, I feel like it had a pretty good reaction. People liked it so I’m stoked.

What’s Loopin’: THE SOUR SOLUTION lll

Over the past couple weeks, The Sour Solution III has been premiering in Europe, and I’ve been anxiously awaiting the online release. Well, on a day where I hadn’t thought about the video, boom, it dropped. I knew that this video deserved a proper viewing, on a big screen and with my undivided attention. Sunday night I made dinner and pressed play on the 3rd Sour Solution video, and it was everything I could’ve asked for.

Sour has created amazing videos in the past, setting themselves some very high expectations to live up to. The great thing about high expectations is that when you deliver, it’s a big deal. Well, they delivered. As soon as I read “Sour Films” on my TV screen, I got that feeling. That inside excitement. It’s this joy that I get from skate videos, something that is hard to explain, and can really only be duplicated when I watch another highly anticipated skate video.

Behind the Loops: Daniel Policelli

Daniel Policelli and I first met in person in the Fall of 2016 in LA. But, I had known of Dan through his YouTube for years. I had come across one of his edits, thought it was sick, and subscribed. We ended up following each other on Instagram, then Dan hit me up when he was out in LA for the first time. We instantly clicked. From then on, we’ve skated together whenever we have the chance and constantly nerd out on skateboarding, even when I’m here in LA, and he’s in Canada. 

Last year Chocolate released “Bunny Hop”, an instant classic that seemingly everyone in skateboarding was stoked on. I gave Dan a call to chat about the role that he played in this video, and talk through some of his favorite clips that he filmed. Enjoy! –

Lucas Puig Instamix: Beach Curbs 📼 🌀

I’ve been a fan of Lucas’ skating for years, from watching him do amazing ledge/manual tricks, to now watching him do beautiful slappy’s all the time, it’s always special.
