More than just tricks…

One of the many beautiful things about street skating is that you can only plan it out so much. As I wrote that I realized that it’s also one of the things that makes street skating so hard and sometimes frustrating. You never know when a pedestrian might appear out of no where and be in your way, or when a car is going to honk mid-line, or if someone will yell out of their car window “DO A KICKFLIP”; as if you’re there for their entertainment.

The point is, a lot of what’s going on around you in the streets is out of your control. The same goes for the spot you’re at; you can bondo a crack if you want, but at the end of the day you’re going to be dealing with elements that make skating a spot a tough task.

With all that being said, I decided to look at some clips that are memorable to me personally, not necessarily for the tricks done, but for something like a kick-turn, a push, dodging a crack, etc.

Via Mouse

Well, there was only one way to start this off, Guy’s kick-turn in Mouse. This clip is iconic. Just look how cool he looks! It’s funny that Guy did this to then just follow it up with another switch trick, but I think we’re all thankful that he did. In my opinion, making a mid-line kick-turn look cool isn’t easy, but Guy showed that it’s possible. The Switch Back Tail before this and then Switch Shuv Noseslide that follow it are both great, but no part of this line is stuck in my brain as much as the kick-turn. Thanks for the lesson in style, Guy!

What’s Loopin’ – 7/10/22

With a couple amazing video projects releasing over this past week, it only felt right to let out my thoughts out. When something releases and I’m stoked on it, I immediately text my friends, start talking about my favorite clips, and become obsessed. It turns into something I can’t stop thinking about, and wanting to talk about. I love that feeling. It’s a feeling that I crave when I don’t have, and I try to cherish when I do. Well, let’s dive into what gave me that feeling this week. First off, an amazing video project out of Boston by … Continue reading What’s Loopin’ – 7/10/22

Lucas Puig Instamix: Beach Curbs 📼 🌀

I’ve been a fan of Lucas’ skating for years, from watching him do amazing ledge/manual tricks, to now watching him do beautiful slappy’s all the time, it’s always special. During his recent trip stateside, he seemed to be skating the beach curbs everyday, and making the most of it. The mix of creativity along with incredible control led to some dope combos from Lucas on these double sided curbs. Over the past month or so that Lucas was in LA, I was excited day in and day out to see what he would post, and now that his trip has … Continue reading Lucas Puig Instamix: Beach Curbs 📼 🌀

Behind The Loops: Vincent Jugnet

🌀: What’s up Vincent! What’re you up to right now, just kicking it? I know it’s night time out in Lyon…

Yeah I’m chilling. It’s Winter time here, so there’s not that much skating, unfortunately. It’s super cold. No skating, no filming, but I have a bunch of work. What about you?

🌀: Ahh, yeah, I can imagine that Winters are tough out there. I’m good, dealing with this annoying time change, it gets dark at 5pm, so that makes it hard to skate. But, it’s not freezing cold, so I can’t complain.

Yeah, yeah. I’ve got the same problem (laughs)

🌀: So what role did you play in the new Hélas “Paris” edit? I know you mentioned to me you had filmed some second angles.

Yes, it’s been about 2 years now since the “Fellas” video, and I’ve been working as the sales manager for Hélas. I was there for about half of this Paris trip, getting double angles with the filmer we got for that trip (Augustin Giovannoni). It was good to be out with the boys, after 2 years of Covid and shit, it was the first trip we’ve made happen.
