2021 has been off to a hot start with video parts. With 2 recent pro announcements, and the fact that I’ve been spending time digging into some of my favorite videos/parts from last year, I figured I’d share some recent stand out loops. With new videos dropping daily, a topic I think about all the time is how to make them last more than one day, how to keep people talking/posting about them. Hopefully these loops remind you to take a look back at some of your favorites from the past, and recognize that all the work that goes into a solid video part/edit deserves more than one day of praise.
Lucas! I’ve been a fan of his for years, but recently I’ve been searching for every Lucas clip I can find, re-reading his interviews with Jenkem & Quartersnacks, and just appreciating his skateboarding. I love that Adidas released 2 mini parts of Lucas for each of the first colorways of his new pro model shoe (Black & Blue). As I’ve made very clear over my time making loops and writing about them, any trick where someone turns against their body gets me stoked. To Front Nose and use your shoulders to whip around 270 the hard way is magnificent, and then follow that up with some sort of Switch Wallie Lotti spin shows his diverse bag of tricks. Call it what you want, either way it’s clear Lucas looks dope doing it.
The “Fellas” video by Hélas was a highlight of 2019 for me, so the raw footage released in their “Fellas: A Cappella Paris” video was extra special. As much as I love a well edited video with a great song, raw footage is hard to top. Especially with the tech line-up of Hélas, it’s rad to see what goes into a trick, and how they don’t settle for anything less than perfect. Brayan Albarenga, Pedro Attenborough and Mikel Vidal really did their thing in Paris, watch the loops & the full video, it’s well worth it.
After Tanner Van Vark’s burst onto the scene in 2018 with his REAL part, he’s been on everyones radar, and it was time he got the bump to the pro ranks. His “T.V.V” part is full of tricks that will take you a moment to comprehend. This flat bar move is incredible. It’s the type of trick that I can picture someone doing, but to do it as proper as he did is a whole different level of control. He completely stood up on the BSNB, slid, and then nudged out of it. Also, watch that back truck, it’s cool to see how turned it is during the Bluntslide, just so he could get that leverage to whip into the BSNB.
Speaking of breaking into the scene, Heitor won over just about everyones heart when they first saw his flowy/surfy style, and he hasn’t slowed down since. His new pro part for Palace really shows his ability to make you want to go push around and have fun, while balancing that with amazing tricks along the way. This trick is just easy on the eyes, once you start watching it, it might be hard to stop…
