Up to this point, each “Out To Get A Loop” episode has been focused on one skateboarder. This time I decided to switch it up and focus on one spot, Jkwon, and feature multiple skateboarders.
Nick Blanco and Tagg Spellman, joined familiar faces to The Skate Loop, Tanner Lawler and Austin Heilman on an early morning Jkwon Sunday.
From Pulaski, to Love Park, to Macba, Plazas have played a huge role in skateboarding. For Los Angeles, Jkwon has been the go-to plaza for many years. Through issues with security, cat-and-mouse games in regards to the ledges being chunked, and then bondo’d, Jkwon is still alive, and is thriving every Sunday.
Lot’s of iconic tricks have gone down on this tile ground that sits on Wilshire Blvd. Kelly Hart’s Fakie Tre over the block comes to mind, as well as Guy’s Nosegrind from Pretty Sweet (1:07:22), and you can’t walk up the stairs to the plaza without thinking about Cyril Jackson’s crazy ollie down the double set from his “Afterburner” Part (3:05). Also, although it’s recent, Miles Silvas’ “One Stop” line which ends at the gap to ledge at Jkwon goes down as legendary in my book.
